In line with Garuda Indonesia's network expansion program in 2009, which introduces 18 new routes, the re-opening of the Jakarta-Pangkalpinang service is also consistent with the airline's efforts to improve service quality and meet current market demands for flight connections between the two cities.
The Jakarta-Pangkalpinang route will be served daily with Boeing 737-300s which has a seat capacity of 16 in business class and 94 in economy class). GA-138 departs from Jakarta at 06.45 WIB and arrives in Pangkalpinang at 07.55 WIB. On the return service, flight GA 139 leaves Pangkalpinang at 08.30 WIB and arrives in Jakarta ay 09.40 WIB.
The re-opening of the Jakarta-Pangkalpinang service is aimed at providing greater convenience for customers who wish to travel to both cities for business or for leisure. The increase in visitors will hopefully stimulate local economy, tourism growth as well as social and cultural development in Pangkalpinang.
In recent times, Pangkalpinang's promising progress has seen investors coming to the region and promoting investment growth by 15%. Potential economic growth is also expected, thanks to advancement in the hospitality, fish processing and mining industries, as well as in tourism and natural resources in the region.
Since the beginning of 2009, Garuda Indonesia has established several new routes, namely Jakarta-Lampung, Jakarta-Jambi, Jakarta-Malang, Jakarta-Kendari, Jakarta-Kupang, Shanghai-Denpasar, Surabaya-Hong Kong and Denpasar-Hong Kong.
For the rest of the year, Garuda Indonesia will continue expanding its network with the introduction of new routes, among others Jakarta-Ambon-Ternate in July, Jakarta-Palu in August, Jakarta-Sorong-Manokwari and Jakarta-Tarakan in September, and Jakarta-Melbourne in August 2009, and Denpasar-Adelaide in November 2009.
