Category: Press Release (0 view)

As part of its network expansion program in 2009, which introduces 18 new routes, Garuda Indonesia has resumed operations on the Jakarta-Riyadh-Dammam service, effective on June 2, 2009. It is consistent with the airline's efforts to improve service quality and meet market demands for flight connections between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, particularly from business travelers and Indonesian workers.

To serve the Jakarta-Riyadh-Dammam route every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, Garuda Indonesia will operate a Boeing 747-400 with a seat capacity of 41 seats in business class and 384 seats in economy class. Flight GA-948 departs from Jakarta at 16.00 LT and arrives in Riyadh at 20.40 LT, then leaving Riyadh at 21.55 LT to arrive in Dammam at 22.55 LT. For the return flight, GA-985 will depart for Jakarta at 23.55 LT, arriving in Jakarta at 12.50 LT.

The capital city, Riyadh, is Saudi Arabia's foremost industrial and commercial city with a population of 5 million. This modern and progressive city is also known as the Middle East's financial and trade center. Given its great potentials, Riyadh is understandably a lucrative market for both Garuda Indonesia and Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's third largest industrial and commercial center is Dammam, located on its eastern shore. With a population of 2 million inhabitants, Dammam is host to a number of the country's giant industries and its biggest oil refinery, as well as the biggest harbor in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf. Dammam's principal industries are oil, petrochemical and construction.

By resuming the service, Garuda Indonesia not only to provide to a bigger market consisting of business, Indonesian workers and pilgrims, it also hopes to encourage travelers from Saudi Arabia to visit Indonesia by promoting greater access between the two countries. Considering Riyadh and Dammam's potentials in terms of population, both destinations offer a host of opportunities for tourism growth in Indonesia.

On a different front, Garuda Indonesia, together with the Indonesia Consulate General in Jeddah, the Association of Travel Agents (ASITA), ten Indonesian tourism businesses as well as four regional governments (East Java, South Sumatra, Jakarta and West Nusa Tenggara), regularly hold exhibitions in Jeddah and other major cities in the region, such as Riyadh and Dammam. The purpose of such events is to introduce Indonesian attractions and culture to the people of Saudi Arabia.

Since the beginning of 2009, Garuda Indonesia has established new routes which will attract the Saudi Arabian market, namely Jakarta-Lampung, Jakarta-Jambi, Jakarta-Malang, Jakarta-Kendari, Jakarta-Kupang, and Jakarta-Pangkalpinang. Meanwhile, to broaden its international market segment, Garuda Indonesia also introduced new services; Shanghai-Denpasar, Surabaya-Hong Kong and Denpasar-Hong Kong.

Garuda Indonesia will also continue expanding its network with new routes, among others Jakarta-Ambon-Ternate in July, Jakarta-Palu in August, Jakarta-Sorong-Manokwari and Jakarta-Tarakan in September, and Jakarta-Sydney and Melbourne in August 2009 and Denpasar-Adelaide in November 2009.
